Willie Nelson is back “on the road again” and he’s coming to Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts for a single performance in the Bluegrass on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

With a career that spans five decades, 200 plus albums boasts such hits as “Blue Skies,” “On the Road Again,” and “Always on My Mind,” Willie Nelson continues to tour and delight audiences everywhere. The iconic Texan is the creative genius behind the historic recordings of “Crazy,” “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.” He has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist.  In 2009, his releases included Naked Willie, Willie and the Wheel and the critically acclaimed American Classic.  Look for a new album, Willie Nelson’s Country, this spring.

Debra Hoskins, Norton Center’s Assistant Managing Director said “having Willie Nelson back at the Norton Center will be a highlight of our programming this year.  Willie is at a point in his life that he can pick and choose the venues where he wants to perform.  The last time he was here was in 2000 and he was a sell-out. We’re really happy he’s chosen The Norton Center as one of his stops.” His accomplishments and legacy speak for themselves, but his work in music and film continues to grow and develop even now. This performance is sure to bring the warmth, personality and inimitable style of Willie Nelson’s music right here to the Norton Center in the heart of the Bluegrass Region. Few artists have ever matched Willie Nelson as a true story-teller with such universal appeal and exceptional talent.

Yellow Dubmarine

Photo of Yellow Dubmarine

Forty years after four legendary musicians from across the pond crafted a classic album named for the studio they made famous (Abbey Road), another group of supremely talented musicians from Washington D.C. reimagined that same album in their own unique way. For Dub-Reggae rockers, Yellow Dubmarine, the choice to take on the Beatles masterpiece was a natural one. The resulting sound is a sonic landscape that blends traditional African drumming, simple Rock-steady cadence, horn-laced Ska groove full of Caribbean and Calypso overtones, and bass-heavy Dub “riddim” that sways and bounces and gets everyone up and moving.  Essentially Abbey DUB, is an aural journey through the history of Reggae with The Beatles as your guide.    From “Come Together” through “Her Majesty,” Yellow Dubmarine finds rejuvenated life in the music of the Beatles, keeping the heart of each tune present, while simultaneously re-creating them in an entirely new light.

ZZ Top

The sharp-dressed men of legendary rock band ZZ Top are bringing their signature mix of Southern rock, blues and boogie, to the Norton Center this fall.  Guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard are currently touring the country in support of their first studio album in nine years, La Futura.  ZZ TOP’s music is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100% Texas American in derivation.  They’ve been thrilling audiences since the group’s inception in 1969 and can lay the undisputed claim to being the longest running major rock band with original members intact.  Their unmistakable sound and attitude have garnered them legions of fans and cemented their status as cultural icons with popular hits including, “Sharp Dressed Man,” “La Grange,” “Legs,” “Gimme All your Lovin’,” and “Tube Snake Boogie.” These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have sold millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done.  They’re real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ Top.
